Navy Record | Joined Navy as a boy trainee on 1913, aged 12. in 1913 he was 5’ 8”, chest 32½”, hair brown, eyes blue, fresh complexion In 1923 he was 5’ 8¾”, chest 36”, Dark hair, grey eyes. 1923 recorded as LSA (Leading Supply Assistant) on HMS Hood Click on navy record for list of the ships on which he served. He must have seen action several times, particularly in the Dardanelles and Jutland in 1914/1915. He ended his naval service in 1926 as a Petty Officer (Victualling) – in the line of promotion leading to Purser. His conduct reports were always “V.G.” On 13th April 1928 he was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and a gratuity. |
