The role of the regiment was to provide troops for security and guard duties inside the U.K., guarding important locations such as ports and bridges, as well as prisoner of war camps. | No 65 Coy. was part of Eastern Command. |

Dunsterville Column The Dunster force was established in 1917. It was an Allied military mission of less than 1,000 Australian, New Zealand, British and Canadian troops, drawn from the Mesopotamian and Western Fronts, named after its commander General Lionel Dunsterville. Its mission was to gather information, train and command local forces and prevent the spread of German propaganda. Later Dunsterville was told to take and protect Baku oil fields. The force was initially delayed by 3,000 Russian Bolshevik troops at Enzeli, but then proceeded by ship to the Port of Baku on the Caspian Sea. This was a primary target for the advancing Turkish forces and Dunster force endured a short brutal siege in September 1918 before being forced to withdraw. A more detailed account of the campaign can be seen at Wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunsterforce and at http://www.gwpda.org/Dunsterville/Dunsterville_1918.html which contains General Lionel Dunstervilles diaries. |

Thomas served briefly in WW1. He was never listed in same censuses as John, probably as there was a 16 year gap between them. He was John Henry’s uncle. |
1895 | John I and Agnes were married in 1895 in
Dublin. Agnes was born 12/3/1876. Her parents were Michael and Anne Clancy
Valentine. Curragh Camp and Newbridge were Army Barracks. Cavalry were based
at Newbridge, so it is probable that John had joined a cavalry regiment
