||
Naval Record | Bertie served in a variety of ships, progressing from Stoker
II to Leading Stoker before requesting to revert to Stoker I. No reason
is given in the documentation.
After being posted to various shore based training establishments his first long-term posting was to HMS Hawke in December 1909. He then served in a number of different ships and his conduct was generally marked as VG or good. He slipped to “Fair” on HMS Hermes. In February 1914 he was absent without leave and sentenced to 28 days detention and thereafter seems never to have had a character mark recorded! He served in the Mediterranean in 1916/17 and early 1919 his ship was
part of British action in North Russia in support of the White Russians
against the Bolshevik revolutionaries. |
