Grantham Journal 1923 | An article in the Grantham Journal of 24th March 1923 sheds
some light on Joseph and Florence’s situation: HUSBAND’S REMARKABLE OFENCE At the Bingham Police Court on Thursday Joseph Marriott, a labourer, was summonsed for wife maintenance, and Mr RA Young, who represented the complainant, Mrs Florence Racheal Marriott, stated that there were two children, aged 9 years and18 months. After the birth of the second child, complainant had a serious nervous breakdown, and was still suffering from the effects of it. In August last year the defendant left is wife but returned and went away again early in January, giving the somewhat peculiar reason that he considered his wife was not mentally fit to have charge of the children. An order to contribute 30s. a week was made. |
