“History of Bingham”
A Wortley
Albert Hitchcock was a member of the Bingham branch of The Royal British Legion.

Adelaide Wortley writes of Edwin Hitchcock: - ‘Mr Edwin Hitchcock was organist at All Saints’, Bingham for ten years (1910—1920). During that time, the church organ was restored to its present excellent state and the Church choir was well-trained and became well known. Through Mr Hitchcock’s influence the Organ Fund was augmented by a Carnegie grant. For many years Mr Hitchcock was a member of the Bingham concert party, and his services as pianist were greatly appreciated. He was also a member of the Bingham Brass band when it became a prize band after its success at Sleaford in 1892 in a band contest open to all England. Mr Hitchcock was specially commended on his solo on the euphonium. Mr Hitchcock was a watchmaker and jeweller of considerable ability. His wife, Mrs Emily Hitchcock, was a fine Churchwoman and an ardent Christian worker, another grand old lady of Bingham who lived to be eighty four years of age, with always a lively interest in the work of the parish. In All Saints’ magazine of November 1935, we read: ‘’ We are grateful for the gift of a silver shell for use in christenings from Master E.L. Hitchcock in memory of his mother.’’ This boy was the grandson of Mr Edwin Hitchcock and grew up to become Flight Officer E.L. Hitchcock, and as wireless operator took part in ninety five operational flights over enemy territory in World War 2.
