On being in Hong Kong during the Chinese Cultural Revolution:
- I had a land-rover blown up once. A bomb was put in it – not whilst I was in it, fortunately.
- I also spent quite a bit of time working with an armed guard when I worked anywhere near the border with China. The Chinese soldiers were prone to shoot people if they could see them on the other side.
On heritage matters:
- We have to search for information from the past now. By bringing it together on the web-site, we are at least starting a process of making information easily available.
