5/2/17 Boulogne – he was declared unfit and granted 3 weeks leave to England. He was still and leave was extended to 2/5/17. He spent the period of leave at Bingham.
Medical boards held on 11/5/17 & 1/6/17 declared him fit for light duty (1/6/17),
fit for home service (3/8/17) and then fit for general service (10/9/17).

[note that no actual medical condition is ever stated in his records]

His Protection Certificate recorded that his medical category was B iii [only suitable for sedentary work].

On 10/8/18 he was posted to 25th Bn. Liverpool Regt. from 1st Northumberland Fusiliers
And on 10/9/18 he was detailed for duty as Train Conducting Officer (as medically unfit). He was confined to journeys between Etaples and Havre
On 2/12/18 he went to UK on (leave)
On 6/1/19 he travelled to Harrowby Dispersal Centre, Grantham, from Etaples and on
10/1/19 he was released from 1st Northumberland Fusiliers at Harrowby Camp

In 1939 he gave up his practice in Bingham and joined the Civil Service, working at Chalfont Drive. He was awarded his OBE for his work in the Civil Service. He was a Church Warden and Chair of the Bench and Chair of the Quarter Sessions in Bingham.
Beetham Close is named after him and his daughter Jean lived there.
1957/8 Received Order of the British Empire for services as Principal Architect, Ministry of Housing, North Midlands region and local government.
1963 17th January, appointed Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Nottinghamshire. London Gazette 29th January 1923. Address: Appletrees, Bingham.
Dec 1974 John died
