Forces war records web site | The battalion took part in various actions on the Somme
whilst Wallace was serving, including: 1916 - The diversionary attack at Gommecourt. In 1917 he would have been in the operations on the Ancre, Occupation of the Gommecourt defences, The attack on Rettemoy Graben, The German retreat to the Hindenburg Line, The attack on Lievin, The Battle of Hill 70. In 1918 The Battle of the St Quentin canal, The Battle of the Beaurevoir Line, The Battle of Cambrai, The Battle of the Selle, The Battle of Sambre. 11.11.1918 the battalion ended the war at Cartignies S.W. of Avesnes, France. Wallace was transferred to duty as a probationary warden at a military prison in Rouen 28/3/19 16/5/19 severely reprimanded for W.O.A.S. (while on active service) gross neglect of duty i.e. allowing 3 prisoners undergoing sentence to escape 10/6/19 returned to unit as unsuitable for duty with military prison 14/6/19 transfer to UK for demob.
