Private George Henry Jackson | Notts. & Derby 1/7th Sherwood Foresters The King’s Shropshire Light Infantry |
Born 1888 |
Medal Card | Awarded Victory and British medals | ||
The Robinhoods.org.uk | The 1/7th was known as the Robin Hood Battalion. In May 1916 the 1/7th Sherwood Foresters, part of the 139th Brigade, 46th (North Midland) Division, moved to Fonquevillers on the Somme to prepare for the upcoming offensive. In total 18 Divisions would be committed to the attack. The Robin Hoods’ went into the line opposite Gommecourt on the very northern limit of the planned battlefield. |
We do not have an enlistment date for him so we do not really
know which unit he was with at any particular time! For the AVL he was with the Sherwood’s but the RoH (3 years later) has him with the KSLI, so he may have ended the war with them. |
