Employed since April 10th 1913
Always been sober and honest and quite satisfactory. They presumed he had been an apprentice. Is a good shoeing smith and has taken charge of our shoeing dept for 14 months.
Reference signed by NA Hanson May 10th 1915.

He was certified a proficient shoeing smith at No 3 Remount depot, Melton Mowbray on May 12th 1915.
Posted to base depot, rank SS (Shoeing Smith) 4-7-15.

He served in France from 2th June 1915 until 31 January 1917. He was serving in Rouen when he suffered a dislocated left elbow on 13th January 1917. This was described in a medical certificate as trivial and not likely to interfere with his suitability as a soldier. He was hospitalised and then sent back to England on Hospital Ship “Newhaven”.

He was back in le Havre and then Marseilles in July 1917 and in Alexandria in August 1917. He served in Palestine during the whole of 1918 and in February 1919 was “temporarily retained in the army of occupation in Egypt; He returned home from Port Said on 20 June 1919 on SS Ellenga.
He was demobilised in August 1919.

His protection certificate gave his address as 3 Escourt Place Blgs, Bingham
