Joined the Royal Navy as a boy entrant for 12 years on 11th November 1917. | |||
Naval Record | He was 5 feet 2 1/8th inches tall, with a chest measurement
of 32¾”. His occupation was given as “caller up boy”.
His first posting was to HMS Powerful II, a training establishment at Devonport aboard HMS Andromeda. He had a short period on HMS Moldavia in 1917 (luckily, as she was torpedoed in 1918). He served on a number of ships until 1945. His last ship was HMS Queen Elizabeth.
