WORLD WAR I

Bingham War Memorial

Edgar Fewster – PPC Light Infantry War Diary images

The images below are the War Diaries for Egdar’s first few weeks after taining (in Canada?). He was posted to the front on 10th June 1916. During the preceeding 10 days there had been heavy shelling from the Germans followed by infantry attacks where the Candian front line was taken. The battalion was relieved and retired to rest billets.

Edgar and two drafts of about 250 each arrived on June 9th and 10th, in the relative calm of the billets until they returned to the tenches, in Sanctuary Wood (some other Bingham soldiers served in this area), and the bombardment resumed on 27th June. They were again relieved on June 30th.
