War Diary | The medal card implies Albert was assigned to 30th Battery
RFA. If so he would have joined his brigade in La Clyite, near YPRES. They
fired on “requested targets” most days in May.
On 30th May the brigade moved to Dickebush. They spent much of June firing at Hill 60 and started to take casualties. By the 25th June they were at Busseboom. The excellent work of 30th Brigade was commended by the Divisional CO.
By 1st September they had reached Ypres. |
We do not know if Albert was in the “party of NCOs and men dispatched for special inspection by His majesty the King at Renninghelst”. | |
Notes from web site no longer available | 30th Brigade: Comprising 128, 129 and 130 (Howitzer) Batteries, this brigade was under command of 3rd Division. On 25 June 1915 128 (Howitzer) Battery left 30 (Howitzer) Brigade RFA to join 29 Brigade RFA. The brigade was broken up on 14 May 1916. 129 (Howitzer) Battery (less one section) went to 42 Brigade RFA; 130 (Howitzer) Battery (less one section) went to 40 Brigade RFA. Both of these brigades were also in 3rd Division. On 11 May 1916 the two sections had merged to form 'D' Battery of 23 Brigade, also in 3rd Division. |
